New Varieties 2024

  • From Jet-Seeds breeding team comes a wonderful new Silene sieboldii series. Inspired by an old traditional Japanese plant called Matsumoto Senna, formerly called Lychnis coronata var. sieboldii from Honshu, the Fire Dragon Series brings you the bling of vivid orange-reds, nuanced gold-orange-salmons, and pure white on sturdy long lived plants.

Tidy deep green leaves form the perfect backdrop for the jewel like flowers. And pop, they do, like little Dragon flames in a fire bowl. First-year flowering from seed, these beauties can be sown at intervals for summer-time container sales. Topping out at around 10 inches/25 cm tall, the Fire Dragon Series is perfect for a colorful burst in the rock garden or sunny well drained garden site.

Pick your favorite Fire Dragon hue… ’Ivory White’, ’Golden Orange’, ’Scarlet Red’, ’Orange Glow’, or ’Salmon Pink’ …or grow them all and watch them flicker and glow throughout the garden in June and July. Domo arigato, Matsumoto, for the Senna inspiration! Hardy Zone 5-8.

  • A beautiful and rare sage, Salvia jurisicii is endemic to steppe-like regions of southeastern Europe. In celebration of its useful xeric nature, Jet-Seeds has bred a new series of seed strains in 3 colors for use in rock gardens and drier climate gardens.

The grey-green foliage is feathery in appearance as are the flowers, which are a botanical curiosity in the Lamiaceae family… with the lower petal turned upside down. The Juris Series has a nice upright habit growing about 25 cm (10 in) while in bloom. First year flowering from early sown seed, ’Juris Pure White’, ’Juris Soft Pink’, and ’Juris Sky Blue’ hues are available to brighten and add texture to a rockery, container or sunny well drained garden. These vigorous plants are good amassed or settled into nooks. The more the merrier, as pollinators love Lamiaceae (mint family) flowers! And flutter, they will, May-September to the fuzzy soft blooms of the Juris Series sage.

Like Salvia officinalis, chemical analysis of the leaves and stems has shown the presence of antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties. Brew a cup of Juris tea? Good to look at and good for you, too. In pink, blue, and white, you cannot lose with our new Juris Series Salvia. Hardy in Zones 5-8.

  • Jet-Seeds breeding has brought forth a compact first year flowering form of Persian cornflower (Centaurea dealbata ) in cheerful rosy-pink for your rock gardening and container plant pleasure.

Beautiful green fringed foliage on plants about 1/3 of the size of the species (about 12 inches/ 30 cm) makes an attractive backdrop to the cornflower fringed blooms. The underside of the leaf is gray with glistening silvery hairs. (The Latin word dealbatus derived from the verb delbare ‘to whitewash’.) Centaurea dealbata ’Pink Passion’ is very hardy (Zones 3-9), and will thrive with good drainage and plenty of sun.

If gardening on average good garden soil you will find ’Purple Passion’ a very prolific nectar source proving attractive to all kinds of pollinators in sommer and reblooming in the late autumn. The real star of this show is the textural feathery foliage. The silvery under-leaf provides charming highlights that twinkle in the garden. If you have a passion for plant fashion, try our new Centaurea dealbata ’Pink Passion’!

  • Twelve years in the making, this beautiful sulphur-yellow flowering form of Hypericum olympicum var. minus (polyphyllum hort.) is now available as a select first-year-flowering seed strain. The time we invested has paid off with our new introduction, ’Moonlight’.

As a groundcover for rockeries, or any sunny alkaline site, this beautiful sub-shrub will unfurl its delicate sulphur-yellow flowers from June-September on small blue-green leafed stalks. Rock gardeners in Z5-8 will delight in the unusual flower color and neat habit of this easy to grow groundcover. Hypericum ’Moonlight’s dreamy subtle flowers are enchanting! It is not surprising that RHS gave Hypericum olympicum var. minus an Award of Garden Merit already back in 1930.

Growing in the range of about 10 in (25 cm) tall, one can envision many uses for such a beautiful large flowering perennial. Plant it for late in the day and evening enjoyment, in rockeries or containers. Or for fairies who will sit under the moonlight!
